Saturday, August 17th, Project Six Foundation was proud to help host the inaugural Riverland Tennis Fun Day in partnership with the Renmark Tintra Tennis Club, Community Connect Partner – High Performance Tennis, and the Renmark-Paringa Council in what was a great opportunity for children across the region to come n’ try a new sport and as well as participate in various other physical activities.
On a glorious sunny day, over 70 young tennis and non-tennis enthusiasts took part in a variety of team based activities and tennis drills. Project Six Foundation director Daniel Buberis was delighted with the children’s willingness to engage with different activities.
“I was really encouraged by seeing so many children try new sports, including tennis and having a lot of fun,” he said.
“It was a really good experience, with the children working in teams and supporting each other.”
Tennis SA 2018 Coach of the Year Domenic Marafiote, former Wimbledon and Australian Open Junior Champion Luke Saville and former touring professional Jack Shipanski put the children through their paces and passed on useful tips to the enthusiastic youngsters.
Daniel Buberis also took the children through a tennis ‘movement’ session as well as several fun and challenging fitness activities encouraging the children to understand the intensity and commitment required to play at a higher level, and it was good to see the young players embrace the opportunity and respond positively to the session.
Riverland Lawn Tennis Association senior president and Renmark Tintra Tennis Club Head Coach, John Pick, hopes to hold the event next year, aiming to encourage Riverland children of different cultural backgrounds and those not currently involved in the sport to come’n try.
“In partnership with Project Six Foundation we are trying to give opportunity to Riverland children to try tennis and involve children with the sport, across a wide range of cultural backgrounds.” Mr. Pick said.
