Project Six Foundation officially launched today at the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Quezon City, Project 6, Philippines.

The Foundation was launched at the orphanage where Director and Founder, Daniel Buberis, spent four-a-half years growing up before being adopted by an Australian couple in 1981.

The Foundation is hoping to raise funds to develop evidence based coaching and physical education programs for orphanages, schools and sports associations in disadvantaged and remote communities across South East Asia and Australia. Its aim is to help upskill coaches and teachers within these communities to encourage sports participation and physical activity amongst children to ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing.

The launch of the Foundation took two years to realise, as Daniel and local Filipino and Project Six Foundation International Coach Development and Education Coordinator, Roland Kraut, spent time understanding the welfare and education system, and importantly building relationships amongst regional communities.“It’s important we understand the processes and gaps with in the communities where we can make the biggest impact using sports (tennis), coach development and physical education, as a vehicle to get our message across”, Roland said.

“We understand the programs need to be sustainable while also addressing the important need of quality education and social development with in these communities, in particular with the children. How we do this will take considerable time and effort, but we are excited at the challenge and opportunities we have to make a significant difference to their lives”.

DSWD Officer in Charge, Miss Glenda Derla, supported the work Project Six Foundation were doing. “It’s a great cause. The children here love to play and by having a physical education program using sports, like tennis, will only help the children to develop better physically, but will also allow them to explore and have fun and develop important life skills”, Miss Glenda said.

The Foundation launch was covered by prominent Filipino TV sports reporter, Dyan Castillejo, from ABS-CBN News.
